Native American Considerations and the Electoral Process Project
The University of Montana Rural Institute:
American Indian Disability Technical Assistance Center
The Native American Considerations and the Electoral Process Project is funded by DHHS Administration for Families and Children.
Our project is premised on the argument that historical and cultural barriers prevent full participation in the electoral process for Native Americans with disabilities. If P&As have access to training and technical assistance that improve awareness and understanding of these historical and cultural barriers, they will be better prepared to promote full participation in the electoral process for Native Americans with disabilities, including registering to vote, casting a vote, and accessing polling places.
Technical Assistance Request Form
Use this form to request technical assistance regarding historical and cultural barriers to voting among Native Americans with disabilities, outreach activities to Native Americans, and culturally-sensitive communications with and on behalf of Native American with disabilities.
According to an article on Indianz.com, Sens. Obama and Hillary Clinton are both courting the national Native vote, which represents 4.5 million Native people in the United States. Both senators gave speeches at the Montana Democratic Party dinner in Butte, where tribal leaders from all seven reservations in the state were in attendance. About 70,000 Native people comprise nearly 7 percent of the state's population.
Please review the following articles to gather more information on these candidates and review their platform regarding Native American issues.

Dear P & A Colleague,
The Native American Considerations in the Electoral Process (NACEP) project is premised on the argument that historical and cultural barriers prevent full participation in the electoral process for Native Americans with disabilities. The American Indian Disability Technical Assistance Center (AIDTAC) is funded under a contract with the Department of Health and Human Services and is tasked with increasing P&A representatives' awareness and understanding of these historical and cultural barriers that Native American voters with disabilities face. In an effort to improve the capacity of P&A representatives to promote full participation in the electoral process for Native Americans with disabilities, including registering to vote, casting a vote, and accessing polling places, we ask you to complete this survey. Your views and opinions are important to us and will guide us as we plan and develop technical assistance on American Indian and Alaska Native culture, customs, and related issues. This survey is confidential. Please take a moment to complete the survey and remember to hit DONE when you are finished. If you have technical difficulties or require assistance, please contact Carol Henderson-Dahms at (928) 649-9395 or email chendersondahms@q.com. Thank you!
Sincerely, The Native American Considerations and the Electoral Process Project (NACEP)
